Urjit Patel (Urjit R. Patel) is the Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of India, Government of India recently announced him New Governor of RBI. Urjit Patel is an economist, consultant, and banker. He is serving as the Deputy Governor of RBI from 11 January 2013. His role as the Deputy Governor was looking after monetary policy, economic policy research, statistics and information management, deposit insurance, communication and Right to Information. - Early Life and Education
Urjit Patel was born on October 28, 1963. He has the outstanding educational qualification from the Renowned institutes of the world. He holds the bachelor degree in Economics from London School of Economics. Urjit Patel Finished his M. Phil. from Oxford University in 1986. In 1990 he got is Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Economics from Yale University.

- Professional career
With his exceptional educational qualification, he had a way to go in the best places to work. He joined IMF (International Monetary Fund) in 1990 after his P.Hd. in Economics. He worked in IMF for five years, during his tenure he worked with USA, India, Bahamas and Myanmar desks. Urjit Patel impressed and influenced Indian Government in his term and 1995 he was deputed from IMF to Reserve Bank of India. In RBI he was playing a role in the development of debt market, banking sector reforms, pension fund reforms, targeting of real exchange rate. Urjit worked with RBI for two years and after that, he became the consultant of Ministery of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs in Government of India. He worked at this post since 1998-2001.
Dering years 2000-2004 Urjit Patel collaborated with Central and State Governments, with several high-level committees. He was working with Competition Commission, Task Force on Direct Taxes, Prime Minister’s Task Force on Infrastructure, Group of Ministers on Telecom Matters, Advisory Committee on Research Projects and Market Studies, Committee on Civil Aviation Reforms, Expert Group on State Electricity Boards and High Level Expert Group on Civil & Defence Services Pension System.
After spending a long time of the Ministery of Finance and vast experiences Government of India appointed Urjit Patel as Deputy Governor of RBI on 11 January 2013. He took over charge of the vital Monetary Policy Department, succeeding Subir Gokarn to the post.
After a lengthy discussion about the next governor of India, Urjit Patel was appointed as the New RBI Governor on 20th August 2016. He will take the seat of Governor on 4th September 2016 from Raghuram Rajan.
